To celebrate 50 years of conservation in West Michigan, the Land Conservancy is collaborating with local artists to capture the places we have protected together and support continued conservation for the next 50 years and beyond.
Join us this fall for Preserved! Capturing West Michigan’s Enduring Places. The event will feature the artwork of 15 local artists who have been invited to create works “en plein air” at Land Conservancy-protected parks and preserves. Paintings, sculptures, and more will be available for sale to benefit Land Conservancy’s mission of conserving ecologically critical land. LCWM: What should people know about Atomic Object?
Atomic Object: We’re a 100% employee-owned business with headquarters in Grand Rapids and offices in Ann Arbor, Chicago, and Raleigh. We design and build bespoke software for organizations that rely on software for innovation and remaining competitive. Celebrating 25 years in business this year, we’re 25% of our way to our 100 year goal.
What about the Land Conservancy’s mission speaks to you?
One of our six value mantras is “think long-term.” We regularly make decisions with this value in mind. It serves to keep us focused on what really matters and reminds us to avoid the trap of short-term thinking. LCWM’s work, by definition, requires thinking long-term. We are preserving natural spaces for people who aren’t even born yet. That’s inspiring long-term thinking.
What inspires Atomic Object’s support of Preserved! ?
Creating custom software is a highly creative act. We take ideas from our clients, learn their business and make suggestions, identify opportunities, and work to a fixed budget to create beautiful, effective, reliable, scalable and maintainable software. Most people wouldn’t see the connection to art of our work, but we do.
What are you most excited about this fall’s Preserved!?
The talented artists capturing scenes or inspiration from the preserves could be understood as preserving what’s here now for the future. And they do. But what’s most exciting to us is that we’ll collectively have their art not as a sad reminder of what was, but as a vivid reminder of what still is.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Atomic Object thrives when the people in our offices thrive. Helping to make the communities we operate in more beautiful, just, and healthy contributes directly to that. LCWM ensures we’ll always have the restorative power of nature nearby our Grand Rapids office.
