Letter from the Executive Director – Spring 2025

Dear Friends and Fellow Nature Enthusiasts,

Kim Karn

As a child, I eagerly awaited spring, not just for its warmth, but for the return of a small seasonal creek that ran near my home. Fed by melting snow, it would awaken from its frozen slumber, carving paths through the earth. I loved playing in the mud, watching how water shaped the land, how it carried leaves and twigs downstream, how the landscape transformed with its presence. That fascination has never left me.

Restoring a creek—whether it’s a humble trickle or a mighty stream—is a slow, deliberate process. Nature works on its own timeline, and our restoration efforts require patience. But the reward? It’s immeasurable. To stand by a once-degraded waterway and see native plants flourishing, wildlife returning, and clean water flowing again is to witness the incredible power of perseverance. It’s proof that our efforts, our care, and our investments in the land are making a difference.

This is the heart of conservation: creating something beautiful and lasting—not just for today, but for generations to come. And it feels good to be a part of that change. Whether you donate, include the Land Conservancy in your estate plans, volunteer at a workday or on a committee, or attend an event, you are leaving a legacy. You are shaping the land as surely as that small creek shaped the mud under my childhood boots.

Let’s keep shaping something extraordinary—together.

With gratitude,

Kim Karn, Executive Director
