Fungus? On a fall Friday? 🙄 Groundbreaking. Miranda Priestly might deem it a tired trend, but we think fall, fungi, and alliteration are a winning combination. We're excited to ring in this autumn's first #FallFungusFriday with a selection of slime molds and bracket fungi, dressed in an array of the season's hottest colors. 🍄 🍂

It's cool bug time! 🐛 Here we have, in order, a cranefly (also known as a mosquito hawk, although they do not eat mosquitoes) in McDuffee Creek, a moth called Pale Beauty (Campaea perlata) at Lake Breeze Nature Preserve, and evidence of leaf miners, a type of fly whose larvae feed on the leaves of plants and leave a distinctive pattern. It's worth it to get to know your insects--you'll have thousands more friends to greet you every time you visit a natural area.
