New Year’s Day Hike

January 1, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for our annual New Year’s Day hike which will be held this year at Huyser Farm Park.

The Land Conservancy worked with the Huyser Family in 2000 and protected the property with a conservation agreement. Soon after, the property was transferred to Laketown township and made into a park for the use and enjoyment of the community.

We will meet at the Township’s parking lot (on the west side of 64th Street, just south of the intersection with 142nd) and take the pathway that leads to the Huyser’s old farmstead. Then we will continue into the forest, where we will see some of the largest Sassafras trees in the area. The trail ends in the woods but we won’t!  We will make a loop through the mixed hardwood-pine forest to the pond, then explore the open sandy area before passing by the blueberry fields on our way back to our cars. The woods and fields should be beautiful in the snow. It won’t take more than 1 ½ hours to cover about 2.5 miles, but a portion will be off-trail and the ground will likely be snowy. Dress for the conditions and you can always look forward to the warmth of restaurants/bars in nearby Saugatuck and Holland afterwards!
