Home is Where the Habitat Is

May 13 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join the Newaygo Conservation District and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan for a guided hike through Upriver Nature Preserve. Newaygo Conservation District’s Forester and Education Coordinator will lead the hike, sharing about the local ecosystem and the plants and animals that call it home.

The hike will cover ~2 miles of natural surface trails (1.5 feet wide). There are some modest hills (the average grade of the trails is 3%), and the hike will be led at a relaxed walking pace with breaks to learn and observe. This event will happen rain or shine – please come dressed for the weather.

Upriver Nature Preserve has a parking lot just off N. Walnut Ave. We will gather near the trailhead located at the parking lot, and will hike into the preserve together.

This event is part of the National Association of Conservation Districts Stewardship Week. Stewardship Week has been an annual program since 1955, and stands as one of the nation’s largest initiatives dedicated to promoting the conservation of natural resources. This year’s Stewardship Week theme is “Home is Where the Habitat Is”, and is focused on highlighting the essential role of both natural and managed habitats in conservation efforts. Stewardship Week runs from April 27th until May 4th this year, but our commitment to celebrating and safeguarding these habitats extends throughout the entire year.
