The Lake Michigan shoreline between Muskegon and Traverse City has been described as “the most scenic recreation shoreline on the Great Lakes.”
Almost sixty years ago, the National Park Service conducted a survey that identified the most important shoreline locations for conservation. Flower Creek Dunes was listed alongside places like Sleeping Bear Dunes and Arcadia Dunes.
In 2012, the Land Conservancy took the first step in protecting these special dunes by creating the 14-acre Flower Creek Dunes Nature Preserve.
Now, we have an incredible opportunity to more-than-double the size of the preserve and protect a place that is home to endangered and threatened species like the piping plover and the Pitcher’s thistle.
